Ukrainian Independence Day Concert

Join the Ukrainian community of Calgary in a celebration of Ukrainian Independence Day 2023 with a concert, food, and outdoor entertainment. Celebrate the beauty of Ukrainian culture with friends and family, meet neighbours and newcomers, and connect with the community. Concert entertainment will include local Ukrainian soloists, choirs, and performing groups. Performers will be announced soon.
In addition to the concert, there will also be children's activities, as well as food and Ukrainian items for sale in support of Ukraine. Come visit our welcome booths by local Ukrainian organizations, to learn more about Ukrainian organizations in Calgary, how they are supporting our community here and those in Ukraine, and how you can becom involved!
This concert will take place outdoors, rain or shine! Although some seating will be provided, you are also welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and please dress for the weather!
Emergency Rally Stand with Ukraine - Kakhovka Hydroelectric Plant

The Ukrainian community of Calgary will hold an emergency rally at the Poppy Plaza in response to the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Federation blew up the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric plant, with 24 settlements already flooded and putting 40,000 people at risk of flooding. Thousands are already being evacuated from the region, despite Ukrainian authorities reporting Russian shelling in the area.
The destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam is a “monumental” catastrophe, according to UN chief Antonio Guterres. Devastation is expected on a humanitarian, economic, and ecological levels. The dam also supplies water to Crimea as well as Europe's largest nuclear power station at Zaporizhzhia.

Tree planting in commemoration of people who lost their lifes during the russia -Ukraine war. The meeting will start at 9:00 am, following by the tree planting with support provided by the City of Calgary Urban Forestry at 10 am.
March for VYSHYVANKA in recognition of International Vyshyvanka Day

In Ukraine and around the world the third Thursday in May is marked as Vyshyvanka Day. On Vyshyvanka Day, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world wear a Ukrainian embroidered shirt to show their support for the Ukrainian people and as a symbol of unity and solidarity. We are meeting in East Village near the Music Pavilion. Here we will take a group photo in the shape of a Tryzub. From there, we will march along the bow river towards Prince's Island Park, cross the river, and march along Memorial Drive to East Village.

Cycling For Ukraine: A Fundraising Rally and Meet & Greet with the Athlete Cycling Across Canada for Ukraine

This spring, Ukrainian-Canadian cyclist Dariy Khrystyuk will cover more than 5,300 kilometres by bicycle to raise money for Ukraine and Ukrainians who have become victims of war. With every mile of the long and difficult journey from Vancouver to Quebec City—and every dollar donated - funds are raised and dispersed to established Ukrainian charities dedicated to medical aid and rebuilding Ukrainian infrastructure.

Candlelit Vigil for Ukraine: 365 Days of Resistance

While we commemorate 365 Days of Resistance to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it is actually the 9th anniversary of war in Ukraine after the annexation of Crimea and invasion of Eastern Ukraine in 2014.

The Annual Holodomor Commemoration

Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. @ 404 Meredith Rd. NE, Calgary (St. Vladimir's Cultural Centre) - UCC Calgary is inviting for the Annual Holodomor Commemoration – to commemorate millions of victims of the Holodomor, the artificial famine-genocide of 1932-1933 orchestrated by Stalin. The Government of Canada recognized the Holodomor in May 2008 with an Act declaring the famine an act of genocide and establishing a national Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day. Similar legislation has been passed by the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.

This, of course, entirely depends on an individual's work experience, English or French language skills, and education, but there are a variety of immigration streams for Ukrainians to be aware of as they look to make this transition.

Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Day Flag Raising Event on Wednesday, September 7, 2022
On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, please join the Ukrainian Community at McDougall Centre (455 - 6 Street SW, Calgary) where between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. for the Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Day flag raising event. This date commemorates the first Ukrainian immigrants who arrived in Canada on September 7, 1891 and acknowledges the many contributions Albertans of Ukrainian heritage have made in this province since then. The Government of Alberta is proud to recognize how Albertans of Ukrainian heritage continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Alberta’s economy and communities. Flagpoles are located on the east side of the building.

July 24th marked five months since russia embarked on its large scale attack of Ukrainian sovereign territory, further invading a a country already beset `by war and illegal annexation of Crimea since 2014. Numerous representatives of the Ukrainian community in Calgary as well as people from other communities, rallied together in support of Ukraine and to denounce the heinous terrorism of the russian state.
